The Houston Challengers is a Texas team. Many might not know this but our name has a very special meaning to our team. A young lady Darien Onizuka played on the team and we were then named the Strikers. Her father was an astronaut in the Challenger space shuttle tragedy and in her father's memory, Ellison Onizuka, we changed our name to the Challengers. We are a member of the Houston Women's Soccer Assn. and TSSAS .The Challengers have been competing in National Cup competitions for over 15 years in the Open and 030 divisions .In 2006 the 030 team won the USASA National Title. This will be the third year for Challengers to compete in Veterans Cup. The first year we took second and last year we lost in the semis. Veterans Cup is a competitive, fun and friendly competition that we have come to look forward to playing in every year. We can’t wait till Orlando this year - and hopefully coming home with a first place trophy.
